CTCP Networks Policy on Copyright Infringement

CTCP Networks exists purely to provide a service where users can chat to one another. CTCP Networks in no way participates, facilitates or endorses copyright infringements. We specifically prohibit the transfer of copyright infringing materials over our network in our policies and our servers cannot be used to transmit such materials as is detailed below.

IRC clients include a facility (DCC) to exchange files. This is purely a function of the client as a direct transfer between two users which at no point is transferred using or via the servers of CTCP Networks. Since such transfers are not managed by our servers, CTCP Networks have no way to prevent such transfers occurring.

If illegal content exists on anything other than a site within the ctcp.net domain (e.g. www.ctcp.net) then it will be hosted by a different Internet Service and there is nothing that CTCP Networks can do to remove such content. Banning a user offering such content from CTCP Networks will not result in the offending material being removed. Past experience has shown that banning such a user, merely causes them to use a different ISP and nickname to connect to the network which we have no way of knowing is the same person or just use a different IRC network.

If you believe a user is offering infringing material to others, then the most effective action you can take if the user refuses to stop offering said material is to contact the ISP of that user and file civil or criminal charges against them.

Where required, CTCP Networks will cooperate fully with Law Enforcement agencies with any information and assistance we can provide. However, CTCP Networks maintain no personal information on users beyond an email address used for password retrieval from our nickname and channel registration services.

If you believe that infringing materials exist on CTCP Networks servers or web site, please contact copyright@ctcp.net.  CTCP Networks is run entirely by volunteers as a non-profit service so although we will aim to respond to such enquiries quickly, we do not have the resources to guarantee an immediate response.
